Well, it's all over! I can't believe that I am done with my golf career, but I am so lucky to have had some great experiences over the years! Ending at nationals was perfect! My final round did not go well at all. I'm not for sure if it was nerves, wanting to do well because it was my last round, or just a combination of everything. I shot my worst round all year, but in the end, it wasn't really about the score.
It was thinking about all of my past teammates, my coaches, my family, my friends, and everyone that has supported me over the years. It really has meant more to me than you will ever know! I was lucky enough to be "good" at golf and it allowed me to make so many great friendships that I will cherish for a long time! I will really miss being a part of a team, but I admit that I am looking forward to riding in a cart from now on!! Ha!
We had a very long ride back on Friday/Saturday. We drove straight through on the way back so that Heidi could make it back for graduation. I also graduated, but did not take part in the ceremony. It was a tough decision, but I wasn't for sure what time we would get back from nationals and I knew I would be wore out from the trip. It was also a little weird because I only spent a year at Midland and didn't know as much of the graduating class and faculty like I would have at Dana.
It certainly has been an interesting journey, but I am really glad that I was able to take it! Thanks so much for the support and I will see you around :)
My goal is to keep you updated on the end of my college golf career! Thanks for the support! -Jessica

Nationals: Rounds 1-3 recap
Hello from Tennessee! Sorry about being so late with a post, but the truth is, I really haven't had any time to sit down and update a post!
We left Saturday morning for Mount Vernon, Illinois. It was kind of a halfway stopping point for us to get to our destination, Greeneville, Tennessee. We arrived in Greeneville Sunday afternoon and went out to eat and got ready for our practice round on Monday.
We played our practice round Monday morning/afternoon and came back to the hotel to get ready for a banquet for all of the players and coaches. The banquet was fun. Each team was recognized and one player from each team got a "Champions of Character" award, which is what our governing body, the NAIA is all about. I received that award for our school, so that was kind of neat.
Tuesday we had a late tee time of 1:20, so we went out for brunch and then out to the course. It had been raining/misting all day so I knew it was not going to be a fun round! After we got to the course and got ready to go get on the range, they stopped play because some greens were under water and needed to be taken care of before everyone else got on them. We sat in the clubhouse for awhile and then we got word to go back to our hotels and wait for word on when we would resume. We got a call to head back out later that afternoon and ended up teeing off around 5:30 or 6 (it was so late I can't even remember when we teed off!). The latest we could play would be until 8:15, so we were hoping to get at least 9 holes in. I ended up getting in 11 holes before we had to stop.
We then had to turn around and finish our round at 7:00 the next morning and then we had about a 20 minute break and then we went out and played our second round. I played 25 holes of golf on Wednesday and let me tell you, my feet were not happy!! ;)
I didn't play very well the first two days, but the weather conditions weren't great and the course is set up extremely long. I didn't hit the ball bad, I just didn't hit it in the right place. :) I shot a 95 the first round and a 98 the second round.
Today was much better! We had tee times in the morning and it was much nicer weather! I ended up shooting an 87, which I was proud of. I hit the ball better and I actually got some putts to drop. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better and I can end on a high note!
Tennessee is VERY beautiful! We are at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, so it is neat to be able to see the mountains from the course! It makes playing a lot of rounds of golf a lot easier! Unfortunately we haven't had much with time, so we didn't really get to do a lot of sight seeing, but that's okay!
If you search for the NAIA website and then go to women's golf, you should be able to find live scoring if you want to keep track of my last round or look at my scorecards (they're not too pretty haha!) . They have it posted in some of the articles and also on the results page under the national championships link.
Thanks for all of the support! I can't believe it is almost over!

GPAC #4 - GPAC Championships
Saturday was our fourth and final qualifier and championship day for the conference. We started out 3 strokes behind leader Dakota Wesleyan and were in position to qualify for nationals. What looked to be our nicest day of golf, turned into easily the worst day of golf! We were under a wind advisory and gusts were over 50 mph all afternoon. It was just horrible! The wind affected the way the ball rolled on the greens, often pushed balls off the green or way past the hole. The wind also affected the way we swung our clubs. I've never had my club move in my backswing because of a gust of wind! It was very difficult both physically and mentally.
Because of this, scores were VERY high compared to normal. I struggled with my short game and took extra strokes when heading into the wind. I just had to keep reminding myself that everyone else was probably struggling as well. When I got to the clubhouse after my round, I knew it was going to be close for us to hold onto our 2nd place spot. Sioux Falls, who was 11 strokes behind us, had put together decent scores for the conditions. As each of my teammates came in and shared their scores, anxiety grew. We knew we need our #1, Sam, to come in with at least a 97 (which I was very confident she had done). Sure enough, she came in with a 93 and we ended up holding onto 2nd by 5 strokes!
We were headed to nationals!! Coach was very nervous and it was pretty funny to see the relief on his face after all the scores were added up!
3 of us finished in the top 10 individually and earned automatic All-Conference status. Sam finished 3rd, I finished 9th, and Heidi finished 10th. The coaches will vote to include 5 more and I'm hoping that Kaitie will be voted into one of those spots!

Dordt Invite
Monday we competed in the Dordt Invite. We chose to go to this meet because it gave us some extra playing experience and we didn't have classes, so we would not be missing anything important at school. The Sioux Center course is new, so I thought it would be interesting! The course is wide open as the trees aren't grown yet. It was kind of fun to just hit and not really have to worry about getting into tree trouble!
It was a shotgun start, so I started on hole 15. I started off well and continued into the front nine. I made a birdie on hole #4, which was a par 3. I drained a long putt for birdie, which was fun! Three holes later I made another birdie, this time on a par 4! So after missing birdie opportunities in the past, I finally had two in one day! I ended up with a 38 for a score on the front nine. My finishing holes would not go as well, though.
I had five holes left to complete on the back nine. On hole #11 we had to hit over a lot of water to get to the green. I hit it in the water, oops! Then on the next hole I hit a terribly low drive that hit a side hill, bounced back down the hill and into some more water. Oops, again! My last hole did not go well either. I just couldn't buy a break on the last few holes! I ended up with a 50 the back nine. Definitely an interesting way to get to an 88 for a score! I was frustrated with the way things ended, but very proud of my 38. Hopefully I can put together two solid nines on Saturday!

Mount Marty Invite
Yesterday was the Mount Marty Invite/preview for the fourth and final GPAC conference meet. Like always, I'll start off my post saying how nasty the weather was! It was very cold, rained on us in the middle, then got even colder and windier at the end. It just hasn't been a very nice spring for us, but yesterday was the worst so far. I don't really mind golfing in the cold, but the rain was just awful!
I did not play well. I just couldn't get anything to fall. It's not like I was really hitting the ball badly, but I missed a lot of putts that should've fallen. Just didn't get any breaks! I also decided that it would be fun to put 3 of my golf balls in the water hazards! (Oops!) I ended up with my highest score of 99 (51, 48). Quite a difference from earlier in the week. I'm not too worried though. The way I look at it is that I got all of my bad shots out of the way for the conference meet next Saturday!!
Our next meet is Monday in Sioux Center at the Dordt Invite. Looking forward to it!

GPAC #3
We competed in our third of four conference meets yesterday. The four dates determine who qualifies for the NAIA National tournament in May. The top two teams in our conference will qualify. Coming into this meet, we were sitting in 2nd place, 2 strokes behind leader Dakota Wesleyan.
The weather was very cold!! A little bit of wind didn't help either!
My front nine started off very interesting. My shoelace broke. I tried to get the rest of it as tight as I could, because I didn't know when I was going to be able to see my coach next. I saw him on the third hole and he decided to take his shoelace out of his shoe and put it in mine for the rest of the round. That was one problem I've never had! It made for a good laugh though! Anyway, the front nine was kind of rough as I took a lot of bogeys and one triple bogey after accidently hitting the ball twice on a chip. I was able to escape the front nine with a 46, though.
The back nine was MUCH better. I started off with two pars. I then came to a par three, which I found my tee shot was just over the green. I chunked my chip and left myself with a VERY long putt for par. (I'm not quite for sure how to judge distance, but it was anywhere from 35-50 feet, really long!). I made the putt. I couldn't believe it! That is when I knew the back nine was going to go well! I continued to play well and was at even par through the first 5 holes. I took bogeys on the next 3 holes and then took a par on the last hole for a 39!! That is the lowest nine hole score I have taken in my college career, so I was VERY excited!
I ended up with an 85 for a score, which is also a season best and tied for best score of my college career. I was very happy with the way I came back and played on the back nine after a so-so front nine. I was also extremely proud of the rest of my teammates, as our freshman, Amy, came in with an 85 too! Kaitie, Sam, and Heidi all played really well too!
We missed winning the day by 1 stroke! Dakota Wesleyan's #1 shot even par, which really helped their team go low. The good news is that we did exactly what we needed to do yesterday, which was maintain our position in the conference standings. We are now 3 strokes back of Dakota Wesleyan going into the last meet, which is April 30th in Yankton, South Dakota. It is so much fun to be in this position! Can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds!
Scores from yesterday:
Sam 82
Me 85
Amy 85
Kaitie 85
Heidi 92
Team: 337
I will post the GPAC standings for both team and individuals later when they are placed on the website!
Hastings Invite
Well, the Hastings Invite was certainly interesting. It was another very windy day and unfortunately the par 5s were almost all into the wind. Combine this with the fact that the tee boxes on the par 5s were not moved forward like they should have been, it made for a very long and tough day.
This meet was a preview for our next conference meet, which is Monday. It was a good day of learning the course and preparing for conference, even if the scores did not turn out very well. I played okay, but the the par fives and a few other holes really killed me and my score. I shot a 94 (47, 47). I was hoping not to shoot in the 90s this spring, but it happened and I'm not bothered because I know exactly what I need to fix!
We came in 3rd as a team, but weren't really that far off from the top two. I placed 10th, which I was kind of surprised with because of my score ;). I am really looking forward to conference and to see how much better the scores will be!!
Our scores:
Kaitie 83 - 3rd
Me 94 - 10th
Sam 95
Amy 96
Heidi 101
Micaella 102 (Individual)
Team: 368 (ouch for us! haha)
Time to get ready for conference and hope for a much better result (it will be!!)

Nebraska Wesleyan Day 2
CHAMPIONS!
Wow, what a cool and windy day it was! Horrible winds of around 30 mph hounded us all day and made for a very interesting round of golf! As a team we came through once again and put together solid scores to win the invite! It is a great way to start off the year. It also gives us a lot of confidence for the rest of the spring.
I played one of the best rounds of my life. It started out a little rough, but in the middle I had a stretch of 6 holes where I was even par. I took three 7s on the day and tripled my last hole (a long par three into the wind). However, those were the only mistakes of the day. I hit the ball as solid as I ever have, which was fun! The wind ultimately didn't make a lot of difference for me, just a bit of a challenge at some points!
I shot an 86 (43,43) and that was actually the best score of today! (Now that is something I am pretty proud of!). I also tied for 4th, but lost on scorecard tie-breakers, so I took home the 5th place medal.
Our team scores for today:
Me 86
Kaitie 88
Sam 89
Amy 91
Heidi 93
Team score: 354
Micaella also posted a 107 for us today as an individual.
Totals for the tournament:
Sam 81-89 170 (1st place overall)
Kaitie 82-88 170 (2nd place)
Me 89-86 175 (5th place)
Heidi 89-93 182 (9th place)
Amy 92-91 183
Team: 341-354 695 (1st place)
Our next tournament is at Hastings next Tuesday. This is both an invite and a preview for our first conference meet this spring. Looking forward to it!

Nebraska Wesleyan Day 1
Day 1 of our first meet has come and gone!! I, for one, am glad to be done! It was a great day for the team, but I am worn out! :) The day started really nice with some sun and a little wind, but by the end, the cold front had moved through and it was starting to get really chilly and windy.
My round went well today. I haven't been able to get very many holes in for practice this spring and we don't have a driving range, so I wasn't for sure how I would be hitting the ball. Overall, I think I struck the ball really well. I had a few mistakes here and there, but that was to be expected! My putting was pretty good today, so I am excited about that. I had an okay front nine and was having an amazing back nine until I decided I needed to put a "snowman" on my scorecard since the weather had changed (an ugly 8!). ;)
I shot a 46 on the front and a 43 on the back for an 89. I was happy to get into the 80's, even though I know I should have easily been down under 85. Something to work towards in these next couple of meets!!
This is how the run down went for our team:
Sam 81
Kaitie 82
Me 89
Heidi 89
Amy 92
(341 team score)
Micaella shot a 113 as an individual for us.
This was a great way for us to start the season! I believe we are the top team after day one (scores aren't posted online yet), but regardless, we have a very good chance to win our first tournament of the year! We play on a different course tomorrow and with the weather forecast set to be chilly and windy, it should be interesting!
Check back with you tomorrow!

Hi!
Hi, welcome to my golf blog! I felt like this would be a great way to keep all of you update on how my last competitive semester of golf is going!
I feel really great about where the team is headed this spring. Last fall was fantastic. Since Dana College closed unexpectedly, I was just thankful that I was able to continue my golf career at Midland University. Two of my teammates from Dana came too, as well as a transfer and recruit we had coming to Dana. Midland also had one girl that had previously been on the team and was excited to be a part of a team (their team had kind of fallen apart over the last few years).
We had a great fall, won a few tournaments and realized that we had a very solid team. In our conference, we have four meets that decide who the champion is and who will represent us at nationals in May. We play two of the meets in the fall and two in the spring. This year our conference has 12 women's golf teams, which allows us to take our top two teams to nationals. After the fall, we are currently sitting in 2nd place, 2 strokes out of 1st! So currently we are in a qualifying spot and are very excited!
Hopefully this spring goes well and we are able to keep up our success. I had a good fall personally and am really looking forward to ending my career on a high note.
I will try to keep you updated as much as possible and may even tell a few extra stories here and there :)
Thank you for all of your support!
